Mission: The Center for the Advancement of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education leverages the physical and intellectual resources of BSU to build and support a diverse community of educators and students that promotes STEM interest and literacy both regionally and internationally.
Vision: The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education strives to serve as an outstanding resource in which:
• Community members have equal and open access to STEM education resources;
• BSU students gain confidence and develop leadership skills by sharing STEM knowledge through service-learning experiences;
• Faculty and staff develop professionally as they engage BSU students and community members in STEM outreach.
Our Partnership: We work with CASE to put on a yearly after-school STEM education night where students ages 3-15 come to go to different activities hosted by different science departments including the Think Tank.
Mission: Greenlight for Girls works to inspire girls around the world to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects and careers. This organization hosts interactive events around the world, creates hands-on workshops, connects girls with inspiring role models in the STEM profession, and shares knowledge and resources about STEM.
Our Partnership: We work with Greenlight for Girls to host an event with The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education to have girls 11-15 do activities hosted by different science departments including the Think Tank.
Mission: A Precious Plastic workspace is where plastic gets transformed from waste into valuable raw materials or products. There are five different workspaces: Shredder, Extrusion, Sheetpress, Injection and Mix.
Our Partnership: We work with Precious Plastic by supporting their non-profit organization by buying their machines to recycle the plastics that we collect and produce. We also work to spread the word on this organization to encourage other departments to get involved in plastic recycling.
Mission: Fixing Fashion is an organization that provides tutorials on how to repair and upgrade clothes. They work to inspire people to learn how to make their own fashion. Their goal is for people to start proudly designing and wearing Fixed Fashion, creating a global community. Together, we can reduce the amount of waste produced by fashion.
Our Partnership: The Think Tank is part of the community of Fixing Fashion’s fixes and repair shops. This means that students and faculty can come in and use our machines and or supplies (sewing machine, embroidery machine, thread, needles, and more) to help repair and create clothes to help reduce the amount of waste produced by fashion.
Mission: The e-NABLE Community is an amazing group of individuals from all over the world who are using their 3D printers to create free 3D printed hands and arms for those in need of an upper limb assistive device.
They are people who have put aside their political, religious, cultural and personal differences – to come together and collaborate on ways to help improve the open-source 3D printable designs for hands and arms for those who were born missing fingers or who have lost them due to war, disease or natural disaster.
The e-NABLE Community is made up of teachers, students, engineers, scientists, medical professionals, tinkerers, designers, parents, children, scout troops, artists, philanthropists, dreamers, coders, makers and everyday people who just want to make a difference and help to “Give The World A Helping Hand.”
Our Partnership: The Think Tank is part of the e-NABLE Community as we use our 3D printers and other resources to help print as well as help others to print hands and arms for those in need of an upper limb assistive device.
